About Ken
Welcome to Ken’s Fine Dining in Japan. I’m Ken, a permanent resident of Japan and a management consulting professional.
I came to Japan in 2014 and have lived in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area ever since. I first lived near Tokyo Skytree before moving to Kawasaki a couple of years ago. I’ve worked in both Tokyo and Yokohama, getting to know the restaurants around these cities through both work and my own explorations.
Alongside dining out as a personal hobby, I’ve arranged many business dinners over the years. People in my network have come to trust my knowledge of restaurants and my suggestions for different occasions. This blog brings those experiences together, sharing the places and details I hope will help you choose a meal to look forward to.
Why I build my weekends around food
My work in consulting brings demanding weekdays and considerable pressure. At weekends, I look for ways to release that stress, reset and return with fresh energy. A memorable lunch or dinner often becomes the centre of the day: a reason to explore somewhere, slow down and enjoy the surroundings as much as the food.
That is why I have high expectations for a dining experience. Excellent taste matters deeply, but so does the atmosphere and how a place makes me feel. I keep returning to restaurants that leave me feeling restored and energised. Through this blog, I want to share what makes those experiences worth coming back to.
Sharing Japan’s food stories with the world
My ambition is to bring these stories to readers around the world, especially English speakers who are fascinated by Japan but are still getting to know its food culture. I want Kendekingdom to help you understand what makes a place special and imagine how a meal could become part of your own day in Japan.
Unfamiliar dishes, language barriers, complicated bookings and religious or dietary needs can make choosing a restaurant feel daunting. Through my restaurant visits, photographs and practical guides, I aim to make that exploration more approachable, with useful context about the food, the setting and what to check before you go.
